Iran beat India in the semifinal of the Kabaddi event on Day 5 of the Asian Games 2018. TheSportsRush brings India vs Iran Kabaddi highlights.
Day 5 at the Asian Games 2018 has been a day of massive upsets. After the South Korean women’s team failed to qualify in the archery recurve event for the first time in Asian Games’ history, India’s men Kabaddi team soon followed.
India faced a huge upset in the semifinal of men’s Kabaddi, as the team lost to Iran 27-18. The men’s team, without the likes of Surender Nada, Manjeet Chhillar and Surjeet Singh, went down to Iran’s solid defensive game-play.
The Indian team was highly inexperienced, and many players were participating in a major tournament for the first time. Previously, India also lost to South Korea in the group stages of the tournament.
With the loss in the semifinal, India’s men team have won the bronze medal at the Asian Games 2018. India’s women team, meanwhile, will take on Iran in the gold medal match tomorrow.
Here are the Twitter reactions from a shocking defeat:
Kabaddi’s the story tonight. With India on verge of elimination at Asiad, why the downward spiral after these players were converted into poster boys by professional kabaddi leagues. Shocking

Indian kabaddi team has lost twice in this Asian Games – looks like other countries are also learning how to pull people down

For first time since 1990,when #kabaddi was introduced in #AsianGames, India will return without a gold medal. Ironically, this is at a time when the sport has most visibility, a thriving league & financially, is better than ever. Money ≠ success, maybe. Iran, the new powerhouse

India’s gold medal journey in Kabaddi ends. Iran was the better team.
India faded after a good start. Impact of PKL and the tournaments? Loss to Korea and this- india needs to recalibrate.— Boria Majumdar (@BoriaMajumdar) August 23, 2018
Bye bye Kabaddi Gold, you were good to us.
The benefits of a glitzy league are quite evident.

India won’t be able to win gold for first time ever in Kabaddi in Asian Games.
When you choose “STARS” like Pardeep Narwal (& others) over experienced players like Manjit Chillar or Anup Kumar, you are going to face consequences.#AsianGames2018 #Kabaddi

What an upset in #Kabaddi. Iran has beaten India. And how. It was such a comprehensive victory for Iran that it almost looked one-sided. And to underline, they are in finals of both Men and Women Kabaddi. They simply outclassed India. Must give credit where due.
