India’s Kabaddi Results: India makes a strong start at Asian Games 2018

TheSportsRush provides India’s Kabaddi results at the Asian Games 2018 from Day 1 of the tournament.

The Indian Kabaddi team made a strong start to their Asian Games campaign, as both the men’s and women’s team won their opening matches. The Indian men’s team played two matches today, against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka respectively.

India cruised past the Bangladesh side 50-21, while Sri Lanka’s posed a surprisingly tough fight as India overcame the island nation 44-28.

Sri Lanka, in the initial stages of the match took a five point lead over India. Ajay Thakur and Monu Goyat, however, led a strong comeback as the team overcame the deficit to maintain the winning run. India is now just one win away from confirming their berth in the semifinals of the Asian Games.

The Indian women’ team also started the Asian Games campaign on a winning note as they defeated Japan 43-12 in the first match. Payel Chaudhary and Sakshi Kumari put out a strong performance for the team, with the latter being awarded ‘Player of the Match.’

While the men’s team now faces South Korea on August 20, the women’s team will be up against Thailand tomorrow.


Both the men’s and women’s team lead the medal tally at the end of the Day 1, with four and two points respectively.

India are the defending champions in both men’s and women’s category of Kabaddi at the Asian Games. While the men’s team will be eyeing their eight gold medal at the Asian Games, the women’s team will look to complete a hat-trick of highest podium finish.

The women’s category in Kabaddi was added to the Asian Games in Guangzhou 2010, and India has won in both the editions since.
