Virgil Van Dijk has a mad stat which proves that he is the best defender in the world currently.

Manchester City play Liverpool on Thursday and they should be precautious about this astonishing stat which shows that none of the opponent players has completed a dribble past Virgil Van Dijk in the Premier League and Champions League this term.

The difference he has made since signing for the Reds is clearly overwhelming. Nobody expected Liverpool to have enormous stability at the backline which they have lacked before.

The English outfit were a calamity in the backline by leaking goals during the first part of the last season, but the addition of Dutch center-half has changed the fortunes for Jurgen Klopp who have conceded the least amount of goals in 2018 calendar year.

Besides, Liverpool have made their best ever start to their Premier League campaign in their entire club history by bagging 54 points from just 20 games this season. By taking the entire defence in his own hands, they have leaked just 8 goals in the League this season which is the joint best defensive record in the history of the Premier League.

As you can see, he has been dribbled past zero times with Liverpool this campaign despite playing 25 games. The stats prove that the Dutch International is currently the best in the world.

When compared to Van Dijk, Alderweireld has been dribbled past 0.6 times and Aymeric Laporte has been dribbled past 0.3 times per game.

Additionally, the calm presence he has brought into the backline has cut down the leakage of goals and the players around him have raised their game to another level. The likes of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip were very shaky during the first part of the season, but they have done well when the Dutch International is partnering him at the back.

In hindsight, Liverpool have a very young defence when compared to the other defence in the League. The first choice for Jurgen Klopp comprises of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Andrew Robertson.

Apart from Van Dijk who is aged 27, the other three are not above 24 which shows the amount of confidence he has instilled in his teammates.

His leadership is one of the significant strengths, controlling all his teammates by giving orders throughout the game. He is one among the many reasons for the Champions League final ticket to Kiev last season.

Liverpool will take on Manchester City on Thursday at the Etihad Stadium as they try to maintain or extend the lead in the Premier League.
