Chennai Super Kings

CSK have been a pillar of success in the IPL, a team that has stuck with their core through all these seasons and has made it through to the latter stages of the tournament no matter what.

Investing heavily in Indian stars during the inception of the IPL bore great fruits for the Chennai franchise, with Dhoni, Raina and Jaddu having plied their trade at CSK during the peak of their T20 powers.

CSK have come back to the IPL after a gap of two years, and have tried to retain their core again. But this rather emotional decision could end up back firing for them.

While retaining Dhoni would still rank as a strategic move, Raina and Jaddu have been out of favour from the Indian T20 side for some time now, and hence paying hefty sums of money for their services could still count as an emotional move.

CSK’s auction strategy on Day 1

CSK opted to go for experience on Day 1 of the auction, buying a lot of 30+ players, with du Plessis, Tahir, Jadhav, Watson, Bravo and Bhajji.

They also opted to go in with more of spin, getting Bhajji, Tahir and Karn Sharma into the mix.

With all the experience that they have brought into the side, it seems as if CSK will still be looking to cover a lot of bases tomorrow.

CSK’s strategy for Day 2

It was baffling to see them not opting for any young players on the first day, and CSK fans would be hoping that they can find that right mix tomorrow, with respect to youth and experience.

Also, CSK don’t have any fast bowlers in their side, and have only picked Watson and Bravo as of now. While Bravo is a very lethal death bowler, Watson’s powers as a bowler are on the vane, and at best can bowl a few cutters on helpful pitches.

Boult, Southee, McCleneghan and Tye will be up for grabs tomorrow and CSK should go all out for at least one of them in order to build their fast bowling attack around them.

Jaydev Undakat is another bowler who they can target. An Indian bowler, who has recently broken into the Indian team, and can bowl cutters as well as dish out those toe crushing yorkers during the death overs.

CSK’s squad as of now: MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Ryudu, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma
