England’s star players Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan and fast bowler Chris Woakes are all set to be the biggest attractions at the upcoming Indian Premier League auctions. A total of 7 players features in the top-most bracket with a base price of Rs 2 crores (approx. USD 298,000).
Also in the list are Indian pacer Ishant Sharma, Australian pace-men Mitchell Johnson and Pat Cummins and also Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews. The IPL auction is scheduled to be held on 20th of February.
A total of 799 players have expressed their interest in being part of the auctions. The list will get trimmed once the owners submit their choices at the end of this week.
The list features 160 capped players from 8 countries excluding Bangladesh and Pakistan. Also there are 639 uncapped players from 5 countries- India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies.
There is a lot of interest being developed in this year’s auction. Most of that owes to the fact that many English players including Stokes are featuring this year. The teams are looking forward to having some great additions to their squads.
However one interesting point to note is the fact that all these players will be back in the auction pool next year. The teams will have to be careful and need to have a trade-off between having a good player and spending too much for just one season.
Other England Players in the auction list are Jonny Bairstow (INR 1.5 Crore), Jason Roy and Alex Hales (INR 1 Crore) and fast bowlers Tymal Mills and Chrish Jordan (INR 50 lakh).
Andrew Strauss has allowed the England Cricket players to take part in different leagues around the world in order to gain exposure across different conditions. Even during the Indian Series, England players including Ben Stokes showed interest in the attraction of the IPL.
