During the 26th match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad, Punjab Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 34 runs. In what is their third victory of the season, Kings have risen to the fifth position on the points table.
Asked to bat first by RCB captain Virat Kohli, PBKS posted a competitive 179/5 in 20 overs despite a middle-order collapse. While captain Lokesh Rahul scored 91* (57) with the help of seven fours and five sixes to play yet another captain’s knock for his team, all-rounder Harpreet Brar (25 not out) made the most of an opportunity by putting together an unbeaten 61-run partnership with his skipper.
With bowling figures of 3-0-32-2, Bangalore all-rounder Kyle Jamieson was the pick of their bowlers. Apart from Sams, Shahbaz Ahmed, Daniel Sams and Yuzvendra Chahal picked a wicket apiece.

Given how well RCB have batted this season, they were always the front-runners to win this match. The tables turned when Royal Challengers lost the likes of captain Virat Kohli (35), all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (0) and wicket-keeper batsman AB de Villiers (3) within a span of two overs after the halfway mark.
Playing only his fourth IPL match, Brar dismissed Kohli to pick his maiden IPL wicket. His outstanding night at the Narendra Modi Stadium was elongated after he followed his maiden wicket with dismissals of Maxwell and de Villiers.
Having picked bowling figures of 4-1-19-3, Brar was Punjab’s best bowler in this match. The 25-year old player was well-supported by fellow spinner Ravi Bishnoi who picked figures of 4-0-17-2. Brar, who also completed a boundary catch to dismiss Shahbaz Ahmed (8), was declared the ‘Man of the Match’ tonight.

“They’ll be happy at home [in district Moga]. I’m sure it’s their best wishes that have got me here. I didn’t feel anything about being hit for six [by Virat Kohli] because a bowler always has a chance to come back. So, I knew I could come back. My first IPL wicket is Virat bhaji and that helps.
“When I went in to bat, there was time to wait and see for an over or two. [Lokesh] Rahul bhaji was there at the other end to talk to me about the conditions and such,” Brar told Star Sports during the post-match presentation ceremony.
