His 83 run innings in 50 balls took Zimbabwe apart, never allowing them to have any say in the second part of the encounter as Ireland went onto take a 1-0 series lead courtesy of a comprehensive 9 wicket win.
Earlier while batting first, Zimbabwe had for the first time in the course of month managed to string together a healthy enough total, one that saw Ireland step out needing over 10 runs per over. The 37 run stand for the second wicket between the clean hitting Craig Ervine and Sean Williams looked likely to take Zimbabwe within 150 before Mark Adair’s four wicket haul saw them suffer double blows, tumbling at pivotal moments to fall 20 runs short of their target.
Facing off against each other for the culminating match of the series, both the sides are heading in with different agendas. For Zimbabwe, the match is all about saving face and restoring lost pride with the predicament extending to four consecutive defeats against Ireland across all formats. No matter how much we try to dig out a win for Zimbabwe here, the likelihood of them winning is negligible if any.
