There is no hiding to the fact that India captain Virat Kohli is among the most fittest cricketers around the world. Kohli, who is arguably the best modern-day batsman as well, has often credited his fitness for consistent performances over the years.
Kohli, who recently engaged in an Instagram live session with India football captain Sunil Chhetri, revealed that it was trainer Shankar Basu who played a significant role in his transformation.
“It [fitness and training] is everything for me. The biggest transition in my career came in 2015 because of Mr. Shankar Basu. I would not take credit for it, for me the biggest factor for my career going in another template has to be him,” Kohli was quoted as saying.
Basu, who had worked with Kohli at Royal Challengers Bangalore, was the one who introduced Kohli to lifting and also worked on his diet.
“He [Basu] was a trainer at RCB, he introduced me to lifting. I was a bit hesitant; I had some back issues; it was a totally new concept for me. But within three weeks I was amazed at the results that followed.
“After that, he worked with me on my diet, I started paying attention to what was happening with my body, that’s when I realised that because of my genes, I have to work twice or thrice on my body, I am doing the basic thing which my career requires me to do,” Kohli said.

On a lighter note, Kohli and Chhetri also discussed about India and RCB spinner Yuzvendra Chahal by assuming that the 29-year old won’t sit at home once normalcy returns with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic. Chahal also allured attention from Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh who was seen commenting on the live post.
“Jis din cheezein normal hui na, yeh bhaagta hi dikhega roadon pe. Isne ghar nahin jaana waapis. Iska kaam ho gaya hai. Iski taarein-waarein hil gayi hai andar ki. Short-circuit hua hai [The day things get back to normal, you will see Yuzvendra Chahal running on the roads. He won’t go home that day. He has lost it],” Kohli joked about Chahal.

Had it not been for the global crisis, Kohli and Chahal would have been playing for Royal Challengers in the 13th season of the Indian Premier League.
