Virat Kohli: The Indian Captain will have no say in the selection of new coach according to reports. The decision will lay solely in the hands of the legendary Kapil Dev.

With the world cup done and dusted, team India are now looking for a new coach with the 2023 world cup in mind. However, this time Indian skipper Virat Kohli will have no say on the appointment.

The Supreme court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) have approved a steering committee to select the coach. The Indian Express have reported that a senior BCCI official who did not wish to be named has informed them that this committee headed by Kapil Dev will take the final call on the appointment and Virat Kohli will have no say on the issue.

He said:

“Last time, the captain (Kohli) had expressed his difficulty, or the team’s difficulty, with former coach Anil Kumble. In the new selection process, he will have absolutely no say with regards to who becomes the coach. This time, we have Kapil Dev in the coach selection committee, and he will not listen to him (Kohli),”

Virat Kohli had famously instigated Anil Kumble’s exit following India’s loss to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy back in 2017. Kohli had expressed reservation over Kumble’s style of functioning. He then batted for the appointment of Ravi Shastri, who was eventually handed the reigns of the team until the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup.

Shastri and Co. have been given a 45 day extension for the West Indies tour that starts on August 3rd. While India aim to appoint a new coach before the home series against South Africa starting September 15th.
