South African legend, Jacques Kallis recently made the news as he spoke about the IPL and Kolkata Knight Riders in particular. Kallis was an integral part in changing KKR’s fortunes in the competition, as his role in their two IPL titles should never be underestimated.

The legendary all-rounder played for a couple of years with the Knight Riders, before he took up a more prominent role behind the scenes.

Now acting as a mentor to KKR, Kallis will be part of their think tank for next season, as the legendary cricketer will play an active role in the upcoming IPL auction.

One of the biggest talking points for KKR is whether or not they will retain their legendary skipper, Gautam Gambhir for the next season.

Gambhir is one of the most iconic skippers in IPL history, as it was under his leadership that KKR went on to become one of the most successful teams in the competition.

One of the most accomplished batsmen of his generation, Gautam Gambhir has had a fine career, as the talented left hander played a significant part in India’s rise as a cricketing super power over the last decade.

He top scored for India in both the 2007 T20 World Cup final as well as the 2011 World Cup final, as Gambhir’s role in India’s triumphant World Cup wins will never be forgotten.

But now at the fag end of his career, Gambhir’s productivity with the bat is in question as KKR may just part ways with their most successful skipper.

When asked about Gambhir’s possible retention, Kallis said that the matter had not been discussed yet with the team management.

“I haven’t heard anything about that. You can’t say anything until the auction is done. You have to wait till it works out and which players we get to take.”

Gambhir himself has said that he is open to playing in other teams,

“It is very surprising that I have not spoken to anyone (in KKR management). I don’t know about myself [future with KKR]. We’ll probably sit and talk after the Ranji final. But yes I am [open to playing for another franchise],” Gambhir had said.
