Yes, Atletico Madrid were desperate, but it was not out of fear of losing Antoine Griezmann but because they were convinced that Felix was one for the future and every single euro spent on him was worth it. Not many were convinced though. He had only played one season with in the top flight after all.
However, in his solitary year at Benfica, the teenage forward helped them win the Portuguese league. He was also awarded the league’s best young player of the season and also scored a hat-trick in the Europa; becoming the youngest player to do so at only 19.
This was enough for Atletico and they pulled all stops to bring him to the Spanish Capital. Young Felix has since shined and is yet to disappoint for them. He was outstanding in the pre-season game against Real Madrid and was exceptional while clashing with Juventus; scoring two goals against his hero, Cristiano Ronaldo’s side.
