Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that the La Liga giants approached him for the managerial position, but he turned them down.
European superpower Real Madrid was crowned as the UEFA Champions League winner on 26th May 2018. A 3-1 victory over Liverpool saw the Whites add a thirteenth title to their cabinet. However, less than a week since the sweet result, Zinedine Zidane sent shockwaves in the footballing world as he announced that he was stepping down as Real Madrid’s boss. Immensely successful was the Frenchman in his two years at the club, as he said that the club required a change in the next season.
The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium outlet was linked with a huge number of managers in the two weeks after Zinedine Zidane’s departure. Those names included Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte and also a surprise return from Carlo Ancelotti. However, Florentino Perez surprised everyone by naming Julen Lorpetegui as the team’s head coach.
In a recent interview, Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that the Spanish giants approached him for the highly rated job. But, he chose to reject them. The 31 year old is one of the world’s most budding coaches. He helped Hoffenheim finish in the Champions League spots in the Bundesliga.
The German boss who is in his last year with his current club will be joining RB Leipzig in the 2019/20 season. “Real Madrid called me,” he said in an interview with 11Freunde.
“Who would hang up the telephone? Universe Football Club doesn’t exist, so there’s no bigger club than Real Madrid, but I am 31 years old, I will have another chance. I didn’t want to move countries.”

In the past, Nagelsmann has expressed his desire to manage Bayern, describing the job as a dream:
“FC Bayern plays a big role in my dreams. I lived in Munich for many years. I come from Landsberg am Lech, not so far from Munich,” Nagelsmann said via The Mirror.
“My wife and my kid will also move to Munich shortly. We’re building a house there. It’s our home town. But even if I never get the chance to manage FC Bayern, I’d still die as a happy person.”
A tactical genius like Julian Nagelsmann saying no to Real Madrid would have downed the board’s sentiments. On the other hand, the 31 year old remains down to earth about his profession and hopes to coach the Whites in the future. Julen Lorpetegui is although no novice and will be hoping to lead Madrid to domestic glory.
