Jurgen Klopp blames FA Cup ball for Adrian’s howler during Liverpool’s loss to Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp blames FA Cup ball for Adrian’s howler during Liverpool’s loss to Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup 5th round.

Liverpool were handed their third loss in 4 matches at the hands of Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night. The Reds were thoroughly outplayed by the blues. However, the opening goal from Willian did not come from his brilliance but rather, a howler from goalkeeper Adrian.

The Spaniard, who started instead of Adrian, somehow failed to gather cleanly, a shot that came directly at him. He fumbled the chance and allowed the ball to slip past him into the goal.

However, instead of criticizing his player for a lapse of concentration, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, has decided to shift the blame elsewhere.

“The first goal, we lose a ball, what was it 18, 19 yards in front of the goal?,” Klopp said, per the Daily Mail.

“The specific characteristic of the ball and Willian’s shooting technique made life really difficult.

“Before that Adrian saved a sensational ball. He caught the ball and quick restart, which was a good idea, but not everybody was ready.

“Fabinho was surprised by the pass. We wanted to play like this but we lose that ball and they finish it off.”

The Reds would go on to concede another goal in the 2nd half while they failed to put one past Chelsea’s goal keeper Kepa. In fact, this is the 3rd time in 4 games, where they’ve drawn a blank. They have only scored once; in the victory against West Ham in the Premier League.
