Jurgen Klopp gives his views on planned UEFA Super league and names this season's Champions League favourite

Jurgen Klopp gives his views on newly proposed UEFA Super league and names the favourites to win this Champions League.

Liverpool‘s manager Jurgen Klopp has taken the Reds to the pinnacle from the ashes and recently won the Champions League with his side.

Considering his team’s performances recently, Liverpool can be expected to join the newly proposed UEFA Super League and Klopp has expressed his opposition against the new European competition.

Leaked documents published by German publication Der Spiegel last season revealed plans to form a 16-team competition that would essentially ring-fence a tournament to have the world’s biggest clubs playing in European action every season.

This means, several top European clubs will be breaking away from their domestic schedule to play a new competition, hence increasing the seasonal schedule of the players, meaning more exhaustion.

Klopp staunchly opposed the plans while giving a statement to Kicker, and naming the Champions League as the pinnacle of the European football.

“I hope this Super League will never happen. With the way the Champions League is now running, football has a great product, even with the Europa League.”

“For me, the Champions League is the Super League, in which you do not always end up playing against the same teams.”

“Of course, it is [financially] important, but why should we create a system where Liverpool faces Real Madrid for 10 straight years? Who wants to see that every year?”

Meanwhile, Klopp has also spoke about his favourites to win the new addition of the Champions League, and it is not Liverpool, despite his side being one of the strongest in the world.

“We are not the top favourite in the Champions League. Manchester City are once again a favourite, they are very good. In the Premier League, City are above everyone, they have a top combination with their coach and their squad.”

Liverpool have reached to the finals of the Champions League in the past two season, and won it once, yet the German manager does’t count his team re-conquer it.

On the Other hand, it is Manchester City’s have won every domestic title but somehow are failing to win the apex European competition, even though they have one of the strongest squad in Europe
