Jurgen Klopp: McManaman makes worrying statement about Liverpool star ignoring Klopp's instructions during Barca defeat

Steve McManaman has claimed that the Liverpool ace failed to stick with manager’s instructions.

Steve McManaman has claimed that Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson Becker failed to stick with Jurgen Klopp’s instructions during the second half. The Reds were defeated 3-0 Barcelona at Nou Camp, with goals coming from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi in the first leg of the Champions League Semifinals.

When Barcelona were leading 3-0 deep into injury time, Klopp was seen beckoning his goalkeeper to forward for a corner.

And McManaman highlighted how the Brazilian defied his gaffer’s orders, when speaking during commentary of the game for BT Sport:

“Jurgen’s pointing at Alisson to get in the box as well, and Alisson just said no to him!”

In the end, his decision to stay in the box proved important as the hosts broke through the counter-attack and Ousmane Dembele missed a sitter from four yards out.

Liverpool played well for larger chunks of the game, but they were undone by the brilliance of Lionel Messi who has put the Blaugrana in the driving seat and Jurgen Klopp was quick to point out that. The English outfit have a mountain to climb in the second leg as they chase to cut down a three-goal deficit.

“Football is like this. It is about scoring goals and they scored three and we scored none but the performance was really good, the boys played a super game, to be honest, but against a side like Barcelona, a few moments are enough to give them the opportunity,”

“What can I say? I am really happy with the performance but of course not too happy with the result, we have to take that, that’s football and we know that. You don’t get grades, only a hard result and we have to accept that.” said Klopp.

Here’s how Twitter reacted..

What’s next?

Liverpool will travel to St. James Park as they prepare to take on Newcastle United on Saturday. That game will be followed up by the second leg at Anfield against Barcelona in the Champions League Semifinals. The Reds will play their last league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield as they prepare to chase the title and fight out with Manchester City.
