Ajinkya Rahane to lead the Indian Test side against Afghanistan in the absence of Kohli

The Indian team is putting in the hard yards at the Wanderers before the 3rd Test in order to salvage some pride in the 3rd Test in Johannesburg.

Virat Kohli and co. have had multiple training sessions in the past few days, getting to terms with the kind of track Jo’Burg will have to offer.

Kohli has had to deal with a lot of criticism for his team selection, having dropped Rahane for Rohit Sharma, tilting towards ‘current form’ for that one, and having dropped Bhuvi despite his stellar performance in the 1st Test, tilting towards the ‘horses for courses’ approach there.

With Kohli not having a one-track mind with selections, it is frustrating for fans, who feel that Rahane and Bhuvi should be a part of that XI, every time India step out in overseas conditions.

And from the training sessions that India have undergone in the past few days, it looks like both, Bhuvi and Rahane will be making it to India’s XI for the 3rd Test.

During the practice session on Sunday, Rahane was seen lined up along with Kohli and Pandya, indicating that Rahane could be part of that middle order for the upcoming test.

Rahane and Kohli batted for nearly 4 hours after training, being the last ones to walk out of the session.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami bowled with the new ball in the nets and thus Bhuvi could be returning to the lineup too in Jo’Burg.

Rahane and Bhuvi both would be pumped to feature again for India, after having been forced to sit on the bench due to Kohli’s absurd strategies.

The 3rd Test begins on the 24th of January, with Kohli and co. hoping to stop South Africa from inflicting a whitewash on India.
