Juventus makes 30th appeal to regain 2006 Serie A title over Calciopoli scandal

Juventus makes 30th appeal to regain 2006 Serie A title, which was scrapped after much controversial Calciopoli scandal.

Juventus has made yet another appeal against the judgement of scrapping their Serie A title back in 2006, after Calciopoli scandal.

The scandal was uncovered in 2006 by Italian police implicating league champions Juventus and other major teams including AC Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio, and Reggina when a number of illegal telephone interceptions showed a thick network of relations between team managers and referee organizations, being accused of selecting favourable referees.

Juventus were one of the parties that were involved in the scandal, which saw them stripped of a number of titles and relegated to Serie B, and in the end Inter Milan were awarded the title.

In January, they made their 29th appeal against the move of stripping away the title and giving it to the Nerrazzuris but the plea was rejected in May.

Nevertheless, the Bianconeri club have now presented another appeal to the CONI College of Guarantee and it remains to be seen whether they will be successful in having the verdict overturned.

Inter Milan in that season finished third in the 2005/06 season’s points table but with Juventus and city rivals AC Milan’s involvement, they then found themselves top and thus the title was taken away from Juventus and re-awarded to them.

Calciopoli scandal is probably the biggest blot in the history of Italian football. Despite Juventus going to Serie B for 2006/07 season, they managed to become a dominant force in Italy.

The Turin based club started their dominance since 2011/12 season and went on to win 8 successive Serie A titles, in which they went unbeaten throughout 2011/12 season.

Now, Juventus has come a long way since then and now aims to win the Champions League. Although, the Old Lady still claims the stripped title even after 13 years.
