Kohli and Rohit were aware about Dhoni being dropped

Kohli and Rohit were aware about Dhoni being dropped: A BCCI official has said that Kohli and Rohit were present in the selection meeting.

The news and opinions regarding former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni being dropped from India’s T20I squad doesn’t seem to stop.

From fans to former cricketers, a profusion of thoughts have arrived regarding the snub. While some people have defended the selectors’ decision citing as a positive sign for the future, other have lashed brutally at the selectors for the news of Dhoni being dropped seems to big too big for them.

A current BCCI official spoke to PTI regarding the same, saying that because Dhoni isn’t expected to play till the ICC World Twenty20 2020, there wasn’t much logic behind persisting with him.

“It’s a given that Dhoni won’t be around when next ICC World T20 happens in Australia in 2020. So, there wasn’t any point continuing with him if he will not play World T20,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying to PTI.

The official went on to say that the selection committee and the team management had a detailed discussion on this topic before eventually landing on this decision.

“Obviously, the selectors and team management had a good deliberation on this issue. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were present at the selection committee meeting. You think selectors could have gone ahead without their approval?,” he added.

In a way, Dhoni’s ouster from T20Is might help India for looking at options other than him. At the age of 37, one doesn’t expect him to play for much long. In such a scenario, there is no harm in playing others ahead of him.

Moreover, giving more chances to Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik can help India in finding their second-choice wicket-keeper for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
