Broad gives Pant a send off

Rishabh Pant gets bowled, Stuart Broad gives Pant a send off as India lose the plot on Day 2

Rishabh Pant played a brilliant innings on his Test debut, playing with intent and purpose on a wicket that did not have much for the bowlers.

He was picked into the side ahead of Dinesh Karthik, who hadn’t really performed with the bat in the first 2 Tests. And Pant did not disappoint one bit.

He got off the mark in Test cricket with a second ball six, climbing into a Adil Rashid tossed up delivery and sending it deep into the stands.

Pant had announced himself on the Test circuit with a bit of flair, a bit of swag, something that could go a long way in determining what the future holds for him.

With age on his side, the future of Pant looks pretty exciting, But it wasn’t just about that one six, the way he was confidently leaving the ball and stroking away those cover drives provided a lot of belief to the average Indian fan.

However, his stint with the bat did not last long today, as a Stuart Broad delivery castled into his off-stump.

Pant did not quite move his feet to a pitched up delivery outside off stump, just getting his hands out there. The ball thus kissed the inside edge and rattled into the stumps, with Pant putting his head down and walking back because of that poor shot.

Broad did not quite let the young man experience his grief in solace, as he muttered out a few ‘pleasantries’ as Pant was walking back to the pavillion.

The Broad send off did not quite amuse Sanjay Manjrekar, as he felt that it was unnecessary, especially when Pant hadn’t quite sledged the English bowlers.
