Kohli on Dhoni's exclusion from T20I team

Kohli on Dhoni’s exclusion from T20I team: The Indian captain spoke about the reason behind Dhoni’s exclusion.

Former captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s ouster from the T20I squad had created a furore on its arrival. Six days down the line, the question is still doing the rounds during press conferences.

After India beat Windies by 9 wickets to seal the series 3-1 at Thiruvananthapuram, Indian captain Virat Kohli was asked about the reason behind the same.

Kohli initially didn’t seemed like answering the question. On being asked about it, Kohli was quoted, “I think the selector has already addressed about this, if I am not wrong. He’s been spoken to firstly, so I don’t see any reason why I should be sitting here and explaining that. The selector has come out and explained exactly what had happened.”

That being said, he ended up speaking more on Dhoni being dropped from the T20I squad, thus giving significant insights about it. “I think people are putting too much variable into this situation which is not the case, I can assure you of that.

“He’s [Dhoni] still a very integral part of this team. He just feels that in the T20 format someone like Rishabh [Pant] can get more chances. He anyways plays the ODIs for us regularly. From that point of view, he is only trying to help a youngster. It’s got nothing to do with anything which other people are thinking and I, as a captain, can certainly assure you of that,” the 29-year old Indian captain added.

Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the Indian T20I squad will face Windies in the first of the three-match series at Kolkata on November 4.
