French wonder kid, Kylian Mbappe is arguably the most exciting talent of his generation. At the age of 18, all the biggest clubs in the world were ready to pull out the red carpet for him as he was one of the biggest names in this summer’s transfer market.

Arsene Wenger had called him the next Pele, which is just about as big a compliment that a player could receive! With the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and PSG all ready to break the world record for him, Mbappe had to make an astute decision about his future.

While he finally moved to PSG on deadline day, Mbappe actually wanted to move to Barcelona. The moment he realized that Neymar to PSG was a done deal, the youngster wanted to move to the Camp Nou and play with the great Lionel Messi.

But Barcelona were not sharp enough and allowed PSG to swoop in and charm the teenager.

This is what Josep Maria Minguella, Messi’s first football agent, had to say,

“Mbappe said he only wanted to sign for Barcelona when he learned that Neymar was going to PSG,” he told Cadena COPE.

“Barca could’ve had Mbappe for €120m + €30m. I spoke to his father and he only wanted to join Barca as he’d have loved to play with Messi.

“He didn’t want to go to Real Madrid because of BBC (Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo).

“Neymar? It’s difficult to get through to Josep Maria Bartomeu. I told him via a mutual friend that Neymar was done and that he should’ve signed Mbappe.”

Will Barcelona rue their lackadaisical approach in a few years time?
