Lewis Hamilton could join Ferrari on one condition admits David Croft

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have had a wonderful relationship over the last 5 years, with the Brit winning 4 world titles in his time with the team.

Now, the 5 time world champion is gunning for a record 6th F1 title, but will have a fight on his hands, as Ferrari seem to be the quickest car going into the first grand prix.

After a worthwhile testing spree in Barcelona, all teams believe that Ferrari have the fastest car on the circuit, and will be the team to beat.

Ferrari though have played down all of that pre-season hype and feel that come raceday in Melbourne, Mercedes will be just as strong, if not stronger than Ferrari.

Now, considering how Mercedes have dominated the circuit in the last few years, fans would love to see Ferrari challenging them to a tough and close title fight.

The new 2021 grid

While the updates have been coming in an incremental fashion for Ferrari, the 2021 rule changes could create an uproar in the pecking order, with Ferrari in with a good shout to re-instate their domination in the sport.

David Croft believes that if Ferrari do dish out the most dominant car after the 2021 rule changes, Lewis Hamilton could be in line for that famous red suit.

“Wouldn’t it be nice to see Hamilton as a Ferrari driver,” he said in an interview with Express Sport.

“It can happen so don’t ever count that one out.

“I am sure Lewis Hamilton thought about that once or twice as well. If Ferrari have a car to win a Championship I think it could happen.” he added.

The 2019 season chances

Crofty predicts this season to be a close one, as he feels that all the top 6 drivers are capable of winning races.

“Red Bull, Max Verstappen is getting better and better as the years go on,” he said.

“Pierre Gasly is his team-mate and crucially, Honda engines powering for the first time – a new partnership there. They are in the Championship party as well.

“There are three team, six drivers all capable of winning a race at every single Grand Prix. That is what fans want to see; variety and competition.” he concluded.

With the new F1 season just round the corner, it would be interesting to see how the top 3 and the midfield battle pan out.
