The Australian GP qualifying had everything that the ‘deprived’ F1 fan could have asked for.

Cars roaring, paddocks brimming with tension and drivers trying to take the mickey out of each other post the race.

The qualifying even had a dramatic crash, with Bottas hitting the wall in Q3 and then having to be relegated to that number 10 spit on the grid.

But all the fun was reserved for that final 1 minute burst, where all drivers put their foot on the pedal, went in full throttle and in a way announced the arrival of the new F1 era(The Liberty era, if you may).

Hamilton got his 7th pole position at the Australian GP clocking a lap time of 1’21.164, with Raikkonen coming second with a deficit of 0.664.

And while the last bit of the qualifying was extremely fun to watch, Lewis Hamilton ensured that the fun/banter extended to the post qualifying press conference too, with Hamilton taking a swift jibe at Vettel.

Reporters asked Hamilton as to how he managed to go a second faster in Q3 than Q2, to which he replied saying that there wasn’t any change in ‘mode’ with respect to the car from Q2 to Q3.

“I used the same the mode from Q2 through to the end of Q3,” said Hamilton.

“There was no extra button, no extra mode.” he added.

Vettel who was attending the same press conference, asked him, “What were you doing before then?”

Hamilton was then quick to take a jibe at Vettel.

“I was waiting to put a good lap in to wipe the smile off your face.” the Brit said.

The statement from Hamilton seemed like one that could have ignited a verbal battle between the two, however, he clarified that it was joke on his part.

“It was a joke, dude.” he concluded.

With Vettel and Hamilton already getting sucked into a verbal war of sorts, this F1 season promised to offer a lot of spice with respect to this flourishing rivalry.
