In spite of a stellar start to the season, Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi is reportedly very unhappy and upset at the club.

While the club itself were in turmoil from the moment Neymar completed his move to PSG, Messi has been majestic. His fitness and form look to be right on point, as the mercurial Argentine has carryied Barcelona through the initial weeks of the season.

There were concerns that this Barcelona team will not be able to keep up with Zidane’s magnificent Real Madrid side, especially after Los Blancos beat their rivals 5-1 on aggregate in the Spanish Super Cup.

But Messi’s brilliant start to the season has taken Barcelona to the top of the league. Off the field though, the club have been in all sorts of trouble.

While Neymar’s shocking exit reverberated to the top of the club’s hierarchy, it is the potentially similar exit of Messi that is keeping the top brass awake at night.

In the last year of his contract, Messi will be free to sign a pre-contract with any club from January next year. While the Barcelona officials are saying that Messi’s new deal is all but finalized, the player himself has not put pen to paper.

And now Messi is upset at the club’s stance in regards to the Catalonia referendum.

This is what an OK Diario journalist had to say,

“Messi does not want that Bartomeu LE use for campaigning and is angry with the positioning of the club by Referendum,” Inda said on El Chiringuito TV.

“Messi is upset because he thinks that there will be hostility in the rest of Spain after the positioning of the club.”
