Lionel Messi injury update

Lionel Messi injury update: The Barcelona star injured his arm during the game against Sevilla two weeks ago.

Barcelona made an incredible comeback last night against Rayo Vallecano. After being 2-1 down for most of the second half, Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez scored a goal each within the space of three minutes to seal an emphatic victory for the Catalan side.

Barca maintain their position at the top of the table with the win, with 24 points from 11 games. Ernesto Valverde’s side is four points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid.

The Catalan giants received a major blow when Lionel Messi was forced off due to an injury to his arm in the game against Sevilla two weeks ago. With games against Inter MIlan and Real Madrid in the next week, it was thought that Barcelona would find it difficult to make a comeback after a relatively shaky start.

However, Luis Suarez stepped up for the defending champions, and has scored 6 goals in the last three games, including a hattrick in the El Clasico. Barcelona registered a convincing 2-0 victory over Inter Milan, and won their first leg of the Copa Del Rey against Cultural Leonesa.

It is now being reported that Messi is set to make a comeback.

Messi injury update:

Spanish media outlet Marca has now reported that Lionel Messi can arrive sooner than expected. Barcelona earlier confirmed that the Argentine star would be on the sidelines for three weeks, but Messi returned to training before yesterday’s game against Rayo Vallecano.

Marca now claims that Messi could return for the game against Inter Milan on Tuesday. The Spanish outlet reports that Messi is showing positive signs in recovery and Valverde could take him to San Siro for the away leg in the Champions League group stage.

Lionel Messi was influential for Barcelona in their game against Tottenham Hotspur at the Wembley Stadium, where the Catalan side registered a thumping 4-2 victory.

What next?

The morale is high for Barcelona after the comeback win yesterday, and the Catalans have performed strongly even in the absence of Messi.

The return of the Argentine star would be opportune for Valverde at the moment, as the team is on a good run and can seal a berth in the round-of-16 with a win at San Siro.
