Thibaut Courtois committed a massive howler in Belgium’s Euro qualifier against Russia, which led to a goal in the opening stages of the game.

Thibaut Courtois has had a difficult time on the field ever since he moved to Real Madrid this season.

He committed quite a few mistakes in the Real Madrid jersey ever since joining the side last season. Sadly, the misery continues for Courtois during international duty.

The Belgian goalkeeper committed a huge error in the game against Russia in the side’s first Euro qualifier last night, which led to Denis Cheryshev scoring in an open net.

However, Belgium recovered from the conceded goal to beat Russia 3-1 and make a winning start to the campaign.

Thibaut Courtois howler:

Belgium took on Russia in their first Euro qualifier last night. The side took an early lead in the game, but conceded shortly after through a howler from Courtois.

The goalkeeper intended to dribble the ball past the Russian attackers but failed, which provided Denis Cheryshev with an open goal.

He simply put the ball past the net as Courtois could do little but reflect on his mistake.

However, Belgium recovered from the setback as Eden Hazard scored a brace to secure a 3-1 win over Russia in the qualifier.

Courtois, who left Chelsea for Real Madrid last season, has had a season to forget on both, individual and club level.

The Los Blancos are currently 3rd in the La Liga table, a massive 12 points behind league leaders and arch-rivals Barcelona. The side was also knocked out in the round-of-16 of the Champions League by Ajax.

In the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid suffered a huge 3-0 loss to Barcelona in the semifinal. The Club World Cup is potentially the only trophy Real Madrid will finish with, in the 2019/20 season.

The club, however, received a huge boost earlier this month as Zinedine Zidane returned to the dugout after resigning as the manager last season.

What next?

Zinedine Zidane benched Thibaut Courtois in his first game in charge last week. However, he insisted that he wanted to give Keylor Navas game time and that Courtois’ form had nothing to do with it.
