Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi’s goal contribution in the La Liga this season is nothing short of stunning the whole world.

Lionel Messi would love to play Sevilla week in week out. The Argentine International scored a hat-trick against the Spanish side and took his total hat-trick tally to 50 in his career till date. He is only second to Cristiano Ronaldo who has played 99 games more than Barcelona’s number 10.

He has scored most against the side from Seville by finding the net on 36 occasions from just 35 games which is the highest against any La Liga side in his fascinating Barcelona career.

With these three goals, he increased his tally for the season to 25 in the La Liga and is currently the top scorer in the La Liga and Europe’s top five leagues. Additionally, he has produced a breathtaking 11 assists in the league which is the highest in the league too.

By producing so much in the final third, he has made 36 goal contributions from just 23 games in the league. By mustering these numbers, Lionel Messi is averaging a goal or assist every 52 minutes in the La Liga this season.

It takes something to witness all these magic from Barcelona’s number 10 who seems to be getting better as wine as every single day passes by. Apart from scoring 25 in the league, he has added another 8 in the Champions League and Copa Del Rey.

Barcelona, without the presence of Lionel Messi, are a team without an essence. They have struggled when he was absent on the field until Luis Suarez bailed them on some occasions.

There is no doubt that a player of that calibre will be missed during his absence. Real Madrid were witnessing the same upon Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, but they have somehow found a way to score goals and win games on their own.

Barcelona need not look at post-Messi era as he has the capability to play for another four to five years at the top level easily. However, it will be interesting if they would be able to lift the Champions League this season.
