Liverpool could play two games on same day to avoid fixture congestion

Liverpool could play two games on the same date as the Reds are stuck amidst fixture congestion due to Carabao Cup and Club World Cup.

Liverpool is amidst fixture congestion, as their schedule is packed after the next International break this month to the end of the upcoming December, making them vulnerable to fatigue with such hectic schedule.

In between, Jurgen Klopp’s side is scheduled to travel Qatar to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup which takes place between 11th December and 22nd December.

In the meantime, the quarter-finals of the Carabao cup are also tied to take place on the 17th and 18th December while Liverpool are away for the FIFA tournament.

So in order to compete in both the tournaments and avoid the congestion of the fixtures, it has been reported that Liverpool can field two teams at two different locations.

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool could field a team of youth players against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup while the first-team squad are in Qatar.

Thus, Liverpool will make history by being the first team to play two different teams on the same day in different competitions. Although, before this becomes possible, Liverpool will have to look after some logistics.

First of all, Liverpool would need 36 players in order to cover both squads sufficiently. Further, Klopp would have to prioritize over one of the squads, while a figure such as assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders would likely take control of the other.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that Liverpool’s fixture against Aston Villa can be moved to January 8th but the semi-finals first leg will be played on January 28th. Hence, adding even more burden amidst Champions League and league fixtures.

On the other hand, Klopp has no problem in forfeiting the tournament, if any substantial solution is not provided to his team and giving the semi-final ticket to Aston Villa.
