Liverpool News: The Reds forward set to become the highest paid footballer in EPL as Liverpool prepare a new contract for their star player that will keep him in the Anfield till 2024.
Liverpool recently won their 6th Champions League trophy after overcoming Tottenham in the final. They are now looking to keep a strong hold on one of their architects of success. The new contract will see Salah pocket a mouth-watering £22.4 million per year. This fee, when broken down, comes to £430,000 per week and will rival the wage United are currently paying Alexis Sanchez.
It was only last summer that the Egyptian had signed a contract with Liverpool for 5 years. However, the head honchos at the club want to extend his stay by another year. With good reason too.
A success story
The forward has scored 54 goals in 74 Premier League appearances since arriving from Roma in the summer of 2017. He was instrumental in Liverpool reaching the final of the Champions League in 2018. More importantly, he played a crucial part in 2019 when Liverpool lifted the coveted cup.
Salah won the PFA and Football Writers’ player of the year awards in his first year with the club. He has been an integral component in Jurgen Klopp’s vision of turning the clubs fortune around and making them a champion side.
His rich vein of form had reportedly led to an offer from Real Madrid. However, the Liverpool star turned the offer down. His loyalty to Liverpool was a major factor. Real Captain, Sergio Ramos, also played a part though. Salah is yet to forgive or forget the incident at the 2018 Champions League final that saw him get injured at the hands of Ramos in the middle of the match.
