Yerry Mina to Liverpool

Premier League Giants Liverpool are all set to take Barcelona defender Yerry Mina on loan next season, according to reports in Spain.

Barcelona completed the signing of the new gem of Colombian football for just under £12 Million from Palmeiras on 11 January to fill the void left by the departure of Javier Mascherano to Hebei China Fortune.

Mina joined Barcelona from Brazilian outfit Palmeiras in January but has managed just five appearances for the Catalan Giants.

Mina was a key part for Palmeiras when it won the Brazilian league in 2016 and was runner-up last year.

The center-back made 49 appearances for Palmeiras after joining the Brazilian side in 2016. He also won the Copa Sudamericana with his former club Santa Fe. The Colombian international now looks set to leave the Nou Camp on loan next season to continue his development.

El Chiringuito presenter Ignacio Miguelez revealed: “There is one player whose future for next season is clear, and that is Yerry Mina. The Colombian will spend the season on loan at Liverpool.”

However, it is clearly understood that Yerry Mina was never Valverde’s choice and Blaugrana boss believes that he needs more time in order to adjust with the pace of European football. Liverpool’s defense has already been boosted by the signing of Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton in January and now it is said that Reds are in the market to find an improved defensive partner for the Dutchman.

Both Liverpool and Yerry Mina are going to be benefited by this move. Mina’s stamina and athleticism will work in his favor with tackles and cheeky one-on-ones.

Being 1m 95 cm tall, Yerry Mina’s aerial presence means a lot on the pitch. The player can help start attacks from behind. Despite being a defender, his goal-scoring abilities have gained  wide recognition. Hence, it would be exciting to see him plying his trade in England.
