“He will not join us for Liverpool”: Thomas Tuchel Reveals Thiago Silva Will Miss Tie Against Liverpool

The Atletico Madrid striker was completely shut down when he took on Chelsea

Although he’s managed to spearhead Atletico Madrid’s defence ever since he’s made the switch from Barcelona, Luis Suarez endured a horrendous time against Chelsea. The La Liga striker was completely silenced and shut down by the Premier League side, a lacklustre display which directly impacted his side’s Champions League dreams.

Failing to trouble Chelsea’s defenders even once, Suarez failed to even play the full 90 minutes when the two sides locked heads recently. Bereft of a goal in both the ties between the two clubs, Suarez and Atletico Madrid eventually crashed out of the showpiece tournament.

In the aftermath of that defeat, Suarez has opened up about the toughest defender he’s ever played against. While it was a Chelsea player, it wasn’t one the Uruguayan had taken on in the round of 16 of the Champions League.

Suarez Reveals Toughest CB

Speaking recently, Suarez revealed how he had always been troubled by Chelsea’s Thiago Silva on the pitch.

“A defender that has given me trouble and that I have faced several times was Thiago Silva,” said Suarez. “He is an admirable defender who I have always liked.”

Suarez meanwhile did manage to make amends of his sorry Champions League showing with a crucial strike in the La Liga for his club. The goal paired with an Oblak penalty save ensured Atletico Madrid were able to scram their way to a fortuitous 1-0 win, a result which saw the club hang onto top spot in the league.

Chelsea on the other hand breezed their way to a 2-0 win against Sheffield United in the FA Cup. The win saw them draw up a semi-final contest with Manchester City.

The club is yet to taste defeat under Tuchel’s tutelage with the side unbeaten in the 12 outings since he’s been handed over charge of the club. The side has let in a measly two goals in the period with the nine cleansheets being the driving force behind Chelsea’s resurrection.
