Man Utd injury news: Solskjaer received another major blow as a first-team defender has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Manchester United’s performances dipped ever since the side’s famous victory against PSG in the round-of-16 of the Champions League.
Solskjaer’s side conceded defeats in seven of the 10 games they’ve played across all the competitions since the win over PSG. Last weekend, Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea, which has possibly ended the side’s chances for a top-4 finish.
While Manchester United can still mathematically qualify for a top-4 position, they would have to depend on the results of their rivals, while ensure they win both of their remaining games.
However, Solskjaer received a massive setback in their bid to ensure Champions League qualification next season.
Man Utd injury news: Defender out for the rest of the season
Manchester United’s defender Eric Bailly suffered a serious injury during the game against Chelsea, as he was going in for a tackle.
The Ivory Coast defender walked off the field and it has now been confirmed that the player is out for the rest of the season. Bailly damaged the medial ligament in his right knee, and Solskjaer confirmed that the player won’t feature again.
“I think it is a bad knee injury,” Solskjaer said. “Hopefully it is not the worst case. I am sure we won’t see him again this season, unfortunately.”
Eric Bailly has hardly featured for Manchester United this season, as regular injuries and inconsistent form kept him on the sidelines for a majority of the season.
The side’s first-choice centre-back pairing had been either Jones and Lindelof or Lindelof and Smalling.
However, Bailly had been impressive against Chelsea in the first half, but his time on the pitch was cut short with another long-term injury.

Ander Herrera & Eric Bailly should not be sold at any cost. These two will play with all they’ve got. Fully deserve a chance next season.

Eric Bailly was having a delightful game before his injury [and two-footed challenge]. He was playing higher up, completed 100% of his passes, made 6 recoveries and won 5/5 duels. It is sad to see him get injured in the way he did.
There are 4-5 tiers between him and Smalling. pic.twitter.com/cNfMaZ1EhI

What next?
Manchester United will return to action this weekend as the side takes on the bottom-placed Huddersfield.
