Man Utd News: David De Gea announces captaincy ambitions after reportedly signing a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford for five more years.
Ola Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to rebuild Manchester United. A key component in doing so, is having a leader in the side. A player, around whom the others can rally. One United player has now thrown his candidacy in the mix.

Manchester United’s incumbent goalkeeper, David De Gea has told reporters in Singapore that he desires to lead Manchester United going forward.
The Spaniard said:
“I’ve been captain for some games. Of course, it is amazing to be captain of a club like Manchester United and defend this badge. It’s amazing, so of course I’ll be really, really happy to captain.”
“It’s my ninth season, I feel like one of the most experienced players. I need to show that on the pitch and try to help the young guys know what Manchester United means and that’s important.”
“We have to improve a lot. We are Manchester United, we need to fight for trophies. When you put on this badge, that’s what it means – fight for everything, give your best and bring the team again to the top.”
“It is amazing to be captain of a club like Manchester United. I’ll be really, really happy to captain.”

De Gea has previously captained United against the likes of against Huddersfield, Fulham, West Ham and Everton last season. He made his captaincy debut against Bournemouth in April 2018.
The Spaniard joined United from Atletico Madrid for £18.9m in 2011. He is the fourth-longest servant in the current squad, behind Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Phil Jones. He is expected to be sign a new contract with the club once they return from China, where they face Tottenham in Shanghai on Thursday.
