Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho hits out at Jurgen Klopp for his comments on United’s defensive approach

Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho hits out at Jurgen Klopp for his comments on United’s defensive approach in their Premier League encounter last night.

Liverpool walked into Old Trafford last night perhaps expecting an easy evening against an opponent deep in turmoil. However, the Reds spent most of the match chasing their opponents lead. Their pursuit would ultimately result in an equaliser 5 minutes before the allotted 90 minutes. Unfortunately, they ended up losing their winning streak as they left with a point shared.

Jurgen Klopp was very critical of Manchester United’s approach to the game and suggested that United “were purely there to defend.” Speaking with Sky Sports after the match Klopp said:

“Since I’m in England Man United always played like this.

“We could do better and we will be better in the future but now we have to take it like it is.”

The Liverpool boss continued to complain in a conversation with BBC.

“We always play against the wall. We need to do better but it is how it is,” he said.

“I don’t think Man United can play like this if the other team doesn’t have the ball as much.”

Jose Mourinho hits out at Jurgen Klopp for his comments on United’s defensive approach

Jose Mourinho, who can call himself an expert on all things after Manchester United after leading Chelsea’s charge against the Red Devils in the mid 2000’s and managing United for 2 and a half seasons, suggested that Jurgen Klopp was perhaps just frustrated at never having won at the Old Trafford.

Mourinho said:

Because he never beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, I think he didn’t like the menu. He likes meat and he got fish, so he was not happy. They are of course much stronger playing against an opposition that gives them chances of transitions and counter attacks.

Of course, United, with the limitations they have at this moment, they played a different type of game. They tried to be solid at the back, they tried to not give them a chance of transition, they kept always with three centre-backs in position plus (Scott) McTominay and Fred who were always compact.

Jurgen clearly has frustrations. It’s a fantastic situation for his team. But at Old Trafford – which is a special place to win – he never did it.”

While Liverpool’s winning streak in the Premier League came to a close, the side are still unbeaten. Jurgen Klopp’s men look good for their maiden Premier League title. However, Klopp’s inability to win at the theatre of dreams may irk him a little.

In his 5 matches at the Old Trafford, Klopp has managed 4 draws and a loss while his famed front 3 miserable showing against their Arch Rivals continue.
