Man Utd transfer news: Manchester United are reportedly preparing a move for PSG star to bolster the defence.
Manchester United have been going through a rough patch at the moment. The side faced a defeat in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup and the Champions League, and slipped to sixth place in the Premier League over the last month.
Moreover, Solskjaer’s men faced a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park. However, luckily for them, all the four sides competing for a top-4 place dropped points last week.
Solskjaer was extremely critical of Manchester United’s players after their disappointing performance at the Merseyside, and hinted that there would be changes in the squad in the next season.
And now, it seems like the club has started working on their transfer moves for the summer. According to English media outlet Independent, Manchester United have shortlisted a defensive target to bolster the backline.
Man Utd transfer news: PSG star to United?
According to the Independent, Manchester United is preparing a move for PSG’s right-back Thomas Meunier.
The right-back position has been a concern for Solskjaer and his staff of late. Ashley Young’s disappointing performances could force Solskjaer to take a stern decision on his future in the summer, while Diogo Dalot’s inexperience could leave him vulnerable against the top sides in the league and Europe.
Manchester United have been looking for experienced names for the position, and have reportedly decided on Meunier.
The Belgian defender joined PSG in 2016, and his contract with the French club expires next year. However, Meunier has no plans on extending the contract at the moment.
The report also suggests that the Old Trafford outfit is monitoring Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kieran Trippier as well. However, Manchester United believe that Meunier would a “cheaper and easier” option.
Manchester United currently have three players for the position, with the third being Matteo Darmian.
