Manchester United are readying a replacement for David De Gea in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea’s season went from poor to worse after committing a calamitous mistake against Chelsea. The Red Devils have not just lost points last time, but his form over the last few months is seriously brought into consideration. His last four outings have ended in errors against Manchester City, Chelsea, West Ham, and Barcelona.
The Spanish International is yet to sign a new contract and the club officials feel that the contract conundrum is the major downfall in his poor displays of late. De Gea has been United’s unrivalled performer over the last five years, but his deal expiry will force the club to assess for options rather than losing him for nothing after the conclusion of the next season.
According to ESPN FC, the Red Devils are seriously considering to trigger the clause of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak. The Slovenian can be lured away from Wanda Metropolitano for a fee of 120 million in the summer transfer window after putting pen to paper recently.
United hierarchy believe that Oblak is worth the money after establishing as one of the best shot-stoppers over the last few years. The Atletico goalkeeper had a chance to join Liverpool and Chelsea in the past, but the suitors were not able to meet Atletico’s demands.
Despite his contract expiring in 2023, Oblak is in a similar situation as his teammate Antoine Griezmann in that they would hope to see some top players to compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid for the La Liga. The Blaugrana have recently bought Frenkie De Jong, and the Los Blancos are likely to spend big with the likes of Paul Pogba and Eden Hazard being linked strongly.
Atletico have already lost their star Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich who will join them in the forthcoming window. The backline consisting of Diego Godin, Felipe Luis, and Juanfran are out of contracts and are likely to head the exit door. Saul Niguez and Rodri are linked with a potential move to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively.
Even though they are set to lose some of their stars, it would take something extraordinary to prise Jan Oblak away from Spain in the upcoming window as Atletico will not be eager to sell their entire eleven currently.
