Man Utd Transfer: Sporting CP President provides mammoth update on Bruno Fernandes future

Sporting CP president has iterated that the club will not sell their captain unless their valuation is met.

Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas has insisted that the club will not be forced to sell their captain for a lesser fee despite interest from a host European clubs.

There were several reports about Manchester United bidding €60 million for the midfielder, but the president reiterates that the amount won’t suffice for his signature this summer. He wants the suitors to improve their amount should they stand a stance to land him.

“I don’t know if there are many or if there are few [interested clubs],” Varandas told RTP.

“What I know, a lot has been spoken of values, coming to the press, €55m, €62m… for that he doesn’t leave, for sure.”

Various sides including Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Inter Milan were running for his signature. But, only Manchester United have retained their interest in the midfielder, who looks set to leave the Portuguese side this summer.

In order to bring more quality to the midfielder, Solskjaer has asked Sporting about his availability, but he has already been made aware that Bruno won’t be coming for cheap. Irrespective of Paul Pogba’s future, the Red Devils will pursue a deal for the 24-year-old this summer, but it remains to be seen about the reaching price tag.

Sporting’s valuation was somewhere around €80 million, and anything lesser than that amount will not satisfy the club. This price tag is high because of the breakthrough season last time. He notched up 20 goals and 13 assists in the league alone.

When Varandas was quizzed whether Sporting fans can see new faces in this window.

He said: “If Bruno Fernandes leaves, players with quality will come. But if Bruno leaves.”

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Bruno Fernandes will find it hard to leave the club unless Sporting’s valuation is met this summer. It will be an interesting few weeks ahead as the Red Devils prioritise a deal for a midfielder and defender.
