United have already signed Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and Diogo Dalot from FC Porto this summer.
Premier League giants, Manchester United, have prioritised the signing of AC Milan captain, Leonardo Bonucci, according to various reports.
The centre-back is said to be identified by the Red Devils as a player who can help improve their defence.
On the other hand, AC Milan have been banned from the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League due to the club breaching the regulations of the UEFA Financial Fair Play. This situation at the Rossoneri might just increase the doubts about the futures of key players at the Italian outlet, including Bonucci.
The breach of the FFP regulations took place after the Serie A giants spent a massive €250 million last summer. However, they still failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
If AC Milan are forced to sell their players, Leonardo Bonucci will be an attractive option for many clubs. It is reported that Manchester United are monitoring the situation of the Italian centre-back along with top defenders like Jerome Boateng, Toby Alderweireld, Caglar Soyuncu and Martin Skriniar.
However, the Red Devils seem to be most interested in Bonucci, who can be the perfect player for Jose Mourinho’s squad.
Jose Mourinho has usually used a four-man backline, which has proved to be successful for the Old Trafford outlet. United conceded only 28 times in the Premier League last season, second to champions and city rivals Manchester City.
On the other hand, the Red Devils are also not short of options in defense, having players like Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof to guard their goal.
However, Jones and Rojo have been prone to injuries, while Smalling has been inconsistent at times.
On the other hand, Lindelof started only 24 times for Manchester United across all competitions, after he joined the club from Benfica for £31 million last summer. This only leaves Eric Bailly as United’s reliable central defender, but injuries have also stalled his progress at the club.
Leonardo Bonucci will also increase the amount of experience in Manchester United’s back-line, however, it is yet to know how the Italian will fare in the Premier League.
