The match will be a part of East Bengal’s centenary celebrations. It will also be a part of Manchester United’s pre-season Asia tour. However, there has been no word on when the match will take place as of now.
No word on the date yet
While the match in itself is all but confirmed, there is still no clarity regarding when it will take place. Sources close to the club, who have spoken on the condition of anonymity, have confirmed that a huge payout involved in the deal has stalled the finalization of the date.
“They have given the green light. But we can’t finalise the dates as it involves a massive financial package which will be paid in two parts,” a source told indianexpress.com.
“We can’t confirm anything before the month of March but will try our best to get the deal done. But rest assured if United arrive in Kolkata then it will be the first team,” the source added.
The financial package is estimated to cost a massive 24 crore. With other expenses, this sum could rise to about Rs 30-crore.
Manchester United are currently struggling in the Premier League. They are 7th place in the league at the moment. The Red Devils are hoping to at least reach the top 4 in a bid to secure champions league football. However, despite their struggles on the pitch, the club still remain one of the most popular football clubs in the world.
