Manchester United vs Liverpool: 3 reasons why the Man Utd could beat Liverpool at old Trafford this weekend

Manchester United vs Liverpool: 3 reasons why the Man Utd could beat Liverpool at old Trafford this weekend in the Premier League.

Manchester United are in the midst of their worst run decades in the Premier League. After a brilliant opening match against Chelsea, the Red Devils have fallen to the wayside with the side looking beyond repair at the moment.

Manchester United’s plight have worsened by the fact that they’ve hardly had the services of all their top players with many plagued with injuries. United’s lack of goal scoring options has meant that the decision to allow Romelu Lukaku to leave has come to haunt them.

United have done fairly well in terms of possession. However, they have failed to convert their chances and now sit at number 12 with their top 4 ambitions looking like a pipe dream at the moment. Solskjaer himself looks lost and bereft of ideas.

Liverpool on the other hand are at currently at their best. They have won all their matches in the Premier League and look good to continue their run. In Jurgen Klopp they have arguably the best manager in the world right now.

Their front three is also the most fearsome in the League right now and in Robertson, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk they have a solid defence that can cut down any attack thrown against them. This Liverpool side is the most formidable they’ve ever been.

However, it would be a fool’s errand to count Manchester United out. Here are 3 reasons why the Red Devils could win against Jurgen Klopp’s side in their upcoming Premier League encounter this weekend at Old Trafford.

Sergio Romero, the impenetrable

Sergio Romero is an interesting case. The Argentine goalkeeper is his country’s most capped shot stopper and could very easily be the first-choice keeper of many teams around the world. Instead, he has chosen to be David De Gea’s deputy.

Romero is arguably better on the ball and its distribution than De Gea is. However, the Spanish keeper is a better shot-stopper. This has of course meant that Romero has to play second fiddle to De Gea. In spite of his limited chances however, Romero has stacked up impressive numbers.

In fact, Manchester United are yet to lose a match at the Old Trafford with Sergio Romero between the sticks for 90 minutes. In 22 games, Manchester United have won 17 games and drawn 5.

With De Gea injured, the Argentine will take charge of the gloves this weekend. Could the Argentine Goalkeeper be the difference in the Manchester United vs Liverpool encounter?

Old Trafford- Klopp’s final frontier

Jurgen Klopp has transformed Liverpool into a world beating side from the mid table spot he found them in. Under him, the club’s fortunes have changed to the point where teams tremble at the thought of facing them.

However, for all the wins and achievements under his belt, Klopp is yet to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford with Liverpool. His first visit to their greatest Rivals dome ended in a 1-1 draw. His subsequent visits to the Old Trafford have yielded two further draws and a loss.

Liverpool have broken many records under Klopp and this is one that may not last too long as well. However, Klopp would be wise not to take United, even in the abysmal form they’re in, lightly.

Old Trafford remains Klopp’s final frontier with Liverpool. Anything but a win will rejuvenate Manchester United who will be without their two best players. While Liverpool could find their campaign derail. As such, Klopp would not want to let his guard down.

Liverpool’s blunt 3

Liverpool have transformed from a talented yet raw side into European conquerors. The trio of Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino have played a major role in that transformation. Their effectiveness together has helped Liverpool run down every defence put in front of them.

Unlike their most sides, Liverpool’s front 3 have been very productive together, irrespective of the opponents in front of them. In fact, the 3 have one of the best numbers against the top 6 in the Premier League.

However, when it comes to Manchester United, the trio lose their edge. Their numbers display their bluntness against their greatest rivals. Despite notching up impressive numbers together, they share their managers woeful record against United.

Sadio Mane scored a goal last season in Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Anfield last season. He has never scored a goal against them since. Salah and Firmino have failed to find the back of the net even once with Salah failing to do so even during his record-breaking season.

If Manchester United can keep the trio quiet during the match vs Liverpool, there’s every chance that Jurgen Klopp’s side could be handed their first loss of the league this season.
