Manjrekar on Dhoni's form

Manjrekar on Dhoni’s form: Sanjay Manjrekar believes that India should bat MS Dhoni lower down the order in ODIs.

With criticism nearing former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his indifferent form, here is another former cricketer lashing out at Dhoni. It was Sanjay Manjrekar this time, who spoke about Dhoni not being able to stand tall on the expectations bestowed upon him.

In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar, former Indian batsman and current cricket expert, further added that people should also start expecting less from Dhoni as a batsman for he his past his peak.

“Absolutely but I have always said that at this stage Dhoni is not the world-beater that he was. Just bat him down the order, in Asia Cup final he should not have come ahead of Kedar Jadhav. Kedar is an in-form batsman, a pure batsman. Tone down your expectations from Dhoni the batsman”, said the 53-year old.

Despite his poor form with the bat, Dhoni is all in likeliness to feature in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The reason behind the same is the overall value which Dhoni adds to the team. Manjrekar agreed on the fact that Dhoni’s presence during the World Cup will come in handy for Kohli.

“He (Dhoni) is a good keeper stumping everything that comes his way, a reliable keeper. Virat Kohli needs a person around him, World Cup pressure around him, a man with all the experience but his batting is clearly a problem and if India have an exciting option to replace Dhoni then they should start looking at it”, he was quoted.

With the West Indies’ tour of India starting this week, Dhoni would be looking forward to be back against the runs for it will serve good for both the team and his personal confidence. Below are some of the latest Twitter reactions on Dhoni:
