Matias Vargas on Arsenal

Matias Vargas on Arsenal: The Argentine international says he’d like to join Arsenal over various other European giants.

Arsenal cruised past the high-flying Watford to register their seventh consecutive victory in all competitions. Unai Emery’s side broke the deadlock after over 80 minutes through an unfortunate own goal from Watford, and Mesut Ozil doubled the lead minutes later to secure the three points for Arsenal.

With this win, the Gunners are now fifth in the Premier League table, level on points with their city rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester City continue to remain on the top of the table, while Liverpool and Chelsea make the top-three.

With the surge in form, Arsenal have started to attract interest from other footballers as well. One of them is Matias Vargas, who currently plays in the Argentina Primiera Division.

Matias Vargas, the Argentine footballer who recently made his international debut, spoke about his love for the club in a TV show in Argentina.

He was asked on his preference of football clubs and was given five options – Bayern Munich, Juventus, Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, and Liverpool. Vargas, however, simply replied, “The Arsenal.”

The winger continued to explain that it was his father who made him like Arsenal during his childhood. He also told the host that Sergio Romero, the goalkeeper for Argentina’s national football team and Manchester United, also talked to him about the beautiful atmosphere at the club.

Vargas currently plays for Velez Sarsfield in Argentina. He has shined for the club this season, which led to his first international call-up in last month’s international break.

The 21-year old is essentially a winger for the Argentine club, but can also play as a left midfielder. With Arsenal facing shortage of effective wingers, Vargas could be the answer to club’s issues if Unai Emery takes note of the midfielder.

Here is the video of the talk show:

Arsenal will play their second round of group stage in the Europa League against Azerbaijan’s club, Qarabag.

Unai Emery, however, faced a setback as Henrikh Mkhitaryan has reportedly made himself unavailable for the match, owing to political tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
