Matt Hardy : Is the broken superstar bringing his old gimmick back? What’s next for Matt following Jeff Hardy’s injury?
Jeff Hardy announced that he would be out for almost all of this year following a nasty knee injury. The Charismatic Enigma recently underwent a full reconstructive knee surgery and is expected to be out for 6 to 9 months.
The pair had to vacate the Smackdown Tag Team Championships they had just won without even defending it once. With Jeff out, it would be interesting to see if Matt finds himself another partner and chases the titles he never lost.

However recent developments suggest that Matt may most likely have a singles run instead. According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, there are rumors of a Matt Hardy gimmick change while Jeff recovers from his surgery.
Here’s what he said on this Friday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.
“Jeff Hardy out of action probably 6 – 9 months, full reconstructive knee surgery. And obviously that means he will be out of action for some time. Matt Hardy. We’ll see what happens. I’ve heard talk that perhaps Matt Hardy will bring back Big Money Matt in the mean time. We shall see what they end up doing.”
I want to be solo for the immediate future. Always down for having an alliance with @JEFFHARDYBRAND when he’s healthy & active. https://t.co/KDgU8tYF5Y

Matt released a video on his Youtube channel in the month of March that featured his Big Money Matt avatar in what was most likely a way to introduce the characters to fans who have seen it before.
According to Dave Meltzer, Hardy has been pushing the idea of him portraying all of his gimmicks simultaneously. He wrote this on the March 25, 2019 issue of the Wrestling Observer newsletter:
“Matt Hardy has pushed the idea of him being multiple characters, Woken Matt, Matt Hardy V1 and Big Money Matt. The recently released Big Money Matt video was a way to get social media momentum and a way to add that to his television characters and debut the gimmick to newer fans who never saw it in TNA.”
It will be interesting to see if WWE goes down that round with Matt and how they handle it.
