Matthijs De Ligt: Ajax Skipper takes decision over potential move to Manchester United

Matthijs De Ligt has taken a decision over a potential move to Manchester United.

Manchester United have conceded the highest number of goals from the top six sides of the Premier League. The Red Devils were desiring a new centre-back last summer, but no deal went through which marked the end for Jose Mourinho in mid-December.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer implemented his attacking methodology during his early days as Manchester United boss, but the results have faltered since the International break in March. The English outfit have struggled for results and will play Europa League football next season.

The Champions League miss will not only come as a blow for the financial team, but the Norwegian would find it difficult for the recruitment process in the summer. Various sources cited that Ed Woodward and Solskjaer were keen on Kalidou Koulibaly and Milan Skriniar, but the lack of Champions League football would mark the end of those aspirations to land players of that quality.

Besides keeping an eye on those Serie A defenders, Solskjaer had added Ajax Skipper Matthijs De Ligt to his shortlist. The Dutch International is certain to leave the club this summer and there are many suitors including Manchester United.

According to the English publication Daily Star, De Ligt has decided against joining Manchester United. The 19-year-old feels that the club is run in a worst possible way and the future does not look bright at Old Trafford.

250,000 pounds per week was the offer placed on De Ligt’s table who is not prioritising money over proper development currently. He made up his decision even before the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League next term.

De Ligt was seen as a part of the rebuilding process at Old Trafford and a bid worth 60 million was prepared, but his denial will come as a huge blow for Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Carrying his team to the Champions League Semifinals, the 19-year-old has offers from Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
