Matthijs De Ligt: Frankie De Jong asks his Dutch teammate De Ligt to join Barcelona with him ahead of next season amidst speculations.
Matthijs De Ligt is heavily linked with several clubs after his spectacular performances with Ajax last season. Amidst all the links, Barcelona are also interested in the 19-year-old defender.
It is reported that the Catalan Club are the forerunners in the pursuit of De Ligt. However, Barcelona board is unable to reach to an agreement with the player.
On the other side, Barcelona have already completed the signing of De Ligt’s teammate and one of his closest friends from Ajax- Frankie De Jong.
Barcelona are trying hard to re-unite both the Dutch prodigies at the Camp Nou, but the negotiations with De Ligt are still on hold.
According to a report by the Goal,When asked if he was trying to convince De Ligt to join Barca following Netherlands’ 3-1 extra-time win over England in the Nations League semi-finals, De Jong told reporters.
“No, he has to make his own decisions. Of course I would like him to come to Barcelona but we will see what happens. said De Jong
It’s up to him. I don’t know, it’s his decision,You have to ask him about it but I hope he comes to Barca.”
De Jong added: “Of course we talk about it (De Ligt joining Barcelona). It’s not up to me to say what he’s going to do or his thoughts. I don’t have an influence on his choice. He has to make it on his own and with his family.”
It is yet to be seen, where De Ligt will head this summer, as he is yet to make choice. However, his playing style suits with the culture of the Blaugranas.
