Matthijs De Ligt transfer: Barcelona dealt with huge blow as they fear losing their prime target to Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus

Juventus have entered the race and are proving to be the major stumbling block for Barcelona in Matthijs De Ligt’s deal.

Barcelona have done their part by matching his demands, but Juventus are proving to be a stumbling block in their transfer. The Dutch International was set to join his teammate Frenkie De Jong at Nou Camp, but the Old Lady are relentlessly negotiating to lure him to Turin in the summer transfer window.

According to the Spanish Football Expert Guillem Balague, Ajax Skipper’s representatives and Ajax themselves have been approached by Barcelona. The Blaugrana have agreed on personal terms with the player and transfer fee with the reigning Dutch champions, and the figure is to believed between 60 and 70 million.

However, Juventus are showing stubborn interest in the defender as they search for a long-term replacement for Bonucci in the backline. The Italian International has been poor this season, thereby forcing the club to make a move for De Ligt. Besides that case, the idea of Matthijs De Ligt is fascinating because he is just 19 years of age and has world-class potential.

The reigning Italian Champions are ready to hand him a blank cheque to seal a move. Although Ajax are not encouraging an auction for their Skipper, the player’s wages might bite back Barcelona. Ernesto Valverde’s side are stubborn in their decision and they will not mount up the salary irrespective of De Ligt’s decision.

It will be an interesting decision as Bayern Munich have lately joined the race to sign Matthijs De Ligt. The German champions are third in the centre-backs’ wishlist, but they are ready to match his demands like Barcelona as well.

Conclusively, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have explained about their footballing projects, but they are not ready to splash ludicrous cash. Juventus are desiring him signature at any cost, and they are willing to hand over ludicrous wages having already explained about their project after the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.

Barcelona are still in the prime position to land him, with Juventus and Bayern Munich being second and third club’s in his wishlist respectively. He is yet to take a decision on his future, though.

Liverpool and Manchester City were among the lately linked teams with Matthijs De Ligt. But, they made their inquiries more than a year ago as per his interview.

Here’s how Twitter reacted..

What’s next?

Barcelona will take on Valencia in the finals of the Copa Del Rey at Benito Villamarin on May 25. Ernesto Valverde will be desiring the second trophy of the season.
