Matthijs De Ligt Transfer News: Ajax Captain gives official statement amidst Barcelona and Man Utd interest
Matthijs De Ligt has given an official statement as Manchester United and Barcelona make a move.
Matthijs De Ligt has been linked with plenty of European giants over the past few months. The Dutch International still has not made up his mind despite interest from Manchester United and Barcelona.
The Ajax Skipper said that he is solely focussing on Nations League final rather than diverting his mind to transfer which has time. Apart from Manchester United and Barcelona, Liverpool, Juventus, and Bayern Munich were the other sides to be linked with him. But, Bayern Munich have reportedly walked out of the race, paving way for the other four.
Asked about interest from Premier League, De Ligt said: “Obviously the Premier League is a great competition, but I haven’t made up my mind yet,”
“I’m still looking at what to do. For me, the most important thing is to play. I think today showed what experience can do.
“Now I’m focusing on the next game against Portugal, that’s the most important thing.”
Matthijs De Ligt carried his side to domestic double and Semifinals of the Champions League. He scored against Juventus to carry his side to the last four of the tournament, but his side was not able to sustain pressure in the second half of the second leg as Lucas Moura ruined their hopes.
Ajax are valuing him around €70 million, but they are not willing to create an auction among clubs. Barcelona are still in the driving seat despite agent Mino Raiola’s hardball to secure higher compensation.
United’s relationship with the agent has deteriorated over the past year after Pogba was offered to Manchester City. Albeit this issue, they have offered him £13 million per year, a price which will not be matched by the other suitors. Juventus and Paris Saint Germain are closely monitoring the situation and could strike a deal with Ajax.
