Matthijs De Ligt Transfer News: Barcelona dealt with huge blow as Ajax Skipper favours move to English giants

Matthijs De Ligt is set to be favouring a move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona have agreed terms with Matthijs De Ligt and Ajax, but his agent Mino Raiola is wanting more compensation. The agent is trying to fleece the Catalans by demanding hefty money which does not suit their bill. At the other side, various sides are prepared to pay huge money to lure him away from Amsterdam.

Juventus and Manchester United were running for his signature, although the landscape has changed currently. According to the Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona have backed out of the race for Matthijs De Ligt, and Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain are leading the pack.

Agent Mino Raiola has told Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain that his client is ready to join if the demands are met. Liverpool have been linked with the Dutch centre-half over the last few months and a deal could be on the cards. Over the last three years, the Reds have paid the most to agents, which has helped them to lure in big players.

On the other hand, Paris Saint Germain are coy on Thiago Silva’s successor and De Ligt has the character and charisma to take over the armband as early as possible. There are not many options available for PSG in the backline.

Currently, De Ligt will be able to play every week at Barcelona than Liverpool. Gerard Pique will stand for club’s presidential elections which has alarmed the club to find his replacement. At the other side, the likes of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Dejan Lovren have been rotated in the backline, along with Virgil Van Dijk.

It will be an interesting decision and De Ligt has said that decision is yet to be made with suitors rushing for his services.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Liverpool will play Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup at Istanbul on August 14th. The Reds are expected to ameliorate the squad and acquire good backups.
