Maurizio Sarri attacks Chelsea players: Chelsea faced a shocking 4-0 loss to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

It was a day Maurizio Sarri would prefer to erase from his memory as Chelsea slumped to a crushing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth.

The visitors were humbled at the Vitality Stadium as Chelsea dropped out of the top four. However, they maintain a two-point difference with Manchester United.

Sarri was criticised by Chelsea fans for the performance and the manager was visibly distressed with the result as he interacted with the media after the game.

It was reported by BBC that Maurizio Sarri remained in the dressing room for 45 minutes as he privately conversed with the players while keeping the backroom staff out of the room.

Sarri stated that the players didn’t play ‘as a team,’ and that it is difficult to understand the reason behind the disappointing performance.

“It is very difficult to have an idea about the performance,” said the manager. “I think we played well in the first half, we conceded the goal and we stopped to play. We didn’t play as a team, but 11 players.

“We were in trouble, it was difficult to say why. After the first half, there was the possibility to solve the problem. Not with that kind of reaction, so it is difficult to understand why.

“I wanted to try to understand after the match, I spoke to the players but it is difficult for them to say why. I have to try again tomorrow because I need to see why.”

Sarri further explained that he wanted to talk to the players alone.

“In that moment I wanted to talk to them alone, without anybody. I needed to understand, it was so different in the first and second half. I want to try again tomorrow.

“I think so [that the players are good enough], maybe we are not at the top of the table. But we cannot lose 4-0 to Bournemouth, I want to respect them.

“Maybe it is my fault that I am not able to motivate them.”

Sarri was also critical of the team’s mentality, stating that the team was ‘not able to play’ after conceding the first goal in the game.

“At the moment they can react against a big team, when we play against a big team we can play with a big level of motivation.

“But in this match it was different. Suddenly after the first goal, we were not able to play. I think it was a different situation. Of course about the mentality.”

He also apologized to the fans for the performance. “We can only say sorry to the fans. You can lose, but not in this way. We need to understand the problem and solve it.”
