After Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and put Mumbai Indians in to bat at Mohali, the visitors scored 176/7 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock top-scored for his team scoring 60 (39) with the help of six fours and two sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-25-2, Murugan Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers for KXIP.

In the second innings, Punjab wicket-keeper batsman Lokesh Rahul guided his team to victory with a responsible 71* (57) with the help of six fours and a six.
